From the ancestry that influenced it, Canadian whisky shares certain traits with Scotch, but is much its own. Smoother and lighter than other whisky varieties, it finds distinct flavor from an infusion of rye, though in Canada the term rye whiskey is interchangeable with Canadian whisky, regardless of the rye content.
